 How dare 2K Games turn its back on the PC multiplayer community that made BioShock ... oh ... uh ... that's right. Well, they confirmed that BioShock 2won't support LAN gaming or dedicated serversanyway. In a Q&A on multiplayer posted at the Cult of Rapture, 2K explained their absence as a matter of ordering priorities within a limited time for development:

 Fresh off copying from Xbox Live with its "Uplay" service, Ubisoft is now taking a leaf out Valve's book (The Big Book of Steam), introducing a range of new anti-piracy measures for the company's PC games. Ditching the controversial "StarForce" system of digital rights management, Ubisoft will now be moving its PC game copy protection services to Ubi.com accounts.

Apparently the presence of SecuROM isn't quite the scandal it was with the original game; 2K say it'll be used "only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2", though sceptics should be aware that there'll still be a five-system install limit on the game.

 Valve's gift to the Left 4 Dead 2 customization community has arrived with the release of official campaign authoring tools and add-on support. You want to play custom campaigns of your own or someone else's creation? Go nuts. The Left 4 Dead 2 authoring tools include support for AI Director logic for variable level layouts and the option to use a single map in any mode—Versus, Co-op, Scavenge and Survival. And it looks like your original Left 4 Dead creations will work, provided those creations are recompiled in the new authoring tools. Naturally, this is for the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2, so fire up Steam to download the add-on and creation tools. Sorry, no Christmas break for you, modding community. But we're pretty happy that Valve got this SDK out the door a heck of a lot faster than it did for the original Left 4 Dead.

The delayed SDK for Left 4 Dead 2 has been a bummer to that robust modding community, but now they have news that softens their disappointment: When it arrives, the kit will support custom survivors, infected, weapons, you name it. L4DMods.com says it got a look at code detailing what can be expected in the release. Let's let them explain\: Custom models are now supported and very much a reality now! And that includes survivors, special infected, common infected and weapons. Not only that, it seems the weapon functionality can also be edited. So what does this all mean? Well it means mappers can have custom survivors, special/common infected and entirely new weapons unique to just their campaigns (i.e map side modifications, NOT server side)! The L4D modding scene just got a little more interesting boys and girls.
What does this mean to you, the Left 4 Dead 2 PC player? Well, a whole lot more than justNude Zoeys, I'd bet. Maybe nude jockey-Zoeys hybrids? It's a start.
